My Pink Friday ....

I don't wear very much lipstick ...I'm a gloss girl...
However when I heard of 'Pink Friday' by MAC  and Ms. Minaj, I did not hesitate...I tried the second Friday it was available and was sad to see a message on the site saying:
"Due to overwhelming demand, Pink 4 Friday has sold out. Come back on Friday "
This stuff sold out in minutes ! Go 'head Nicki ...You obviously have madd love out here !!!!
I'm so happy to see another successful brown face sista (and from the islands too) do her thang!
So I supported her and copped my lipstick...I'm super excited about it !
I'm not a name brand junkie at all! But I am faithful and If i like you , I support you... I'm rocking my lipstick proudly !!!!! And I may be back for more MAC lip colors, this stuff ain't so bad....This was a nice introduction to MAC products....me likes !

Here is a quick look at my wearing my 'PinkFriday' ....I just got it in the mail today ....here goes:

To all the brownie sisters out there . I think it's best to apply a brown/chocolate liner first and go easy on the lipstick..It's light~ but it's bright ...Adding a little gloss would be sweet too..

My favorite thing about this lipstick is : It taste and smells great ...and I LOVE PINK !

Get on the site on Friday and cop you this color...This will no longer be available after the 17th ....

Peace and Love..

I am the proud owner of a sexy set of yarn braids! YES I said YARN!!!!

As most of you know I am an avid knitter and a certified neighborhood hooker! So when I heard of yarn braids I was taken...I needed to learn more... I saw this protective natural hair style a few months ago I knew I had to try it...at least once...

This was my birthday present to my self …Yup, as of Monday November 30 I’m an older and wiser woman….oh yea, with a set of flyyy Nubian yarn braids!!!! check me out !!!!

I wondered, could I rock this? Hmmmmm? Confident that after spending time learning about my hair, watching natural videos on You tube and basic trial and error I am a lot smarter about my natural hair…But yarn braids girl? really ? really? really?

yes 4-REALLY !

I figured, Hey I’m already good with yarn crafting so what could the harm really be? I met a few women online who made me feel more comfortable and brave to try this style on my own, with my very own hands! No dipping into the wallet for this ….(smiles)

You see, to get synthetic hair braids done at a salon we are talking $120 and up … Numbers like that can turn you into a D.I.Y ( do -it- yourself) girl real quick !
Now, I have NEVER tried to "install" my own braids in my hair. I’ve always gone and paid the big bucks…. I braved this hairdo all alone… The whole process took many days because this was my first time, I have 4 children and I stopped here and there for eating, sleeping and bathroom breaks.
I started Saturday around 2 a.m. and put the last braids in about Tuesday 2 a.m. LOL. These will have to stay in for about 6 weeks! I love them so much I don’t think that will be a problem.
I will upload a pictorial with step by step pics… for now, this will suffice…
If you are thinking about this style I say “go 'head sister!”

This comes close to having lox without the commitment! It will save me sanity, time and get me out the door quicker …I am already thinking up ways to style my new medium length “hair”…
I may have TOO MUCH fun with this …

My yarn was under 5$ ….My hair moisturizer was 7$....Take out for the family 23$ (because I wasn’t trying to braid and cook too!)
All in all I am very impressed with my self, I love the look and I will do this again!!! I have taken my natural hair care to the next level!!!! I am probably the only girl in my whole city rocking yarn braids right now…probably not for very long! But for now , it feels good to be D.I.Y different and naturally unique !!!!!!

Go me, go me, and go me!!!!

working willingly with wool...

 Knitty Love...

I taught my co-worker turned friend to knit in 2003. I was new to the yarn scene and needed a comrade. She braved on with me …When I started a local knit group, she supported my efforts and she always drove to our outings with no complaints!!!

To this day, even though she has moved and no longer knits, she sends me gifts in the mail…
RAOK (random acts of kindness)
A few months ago, she sent me some sexy hand-dyed, virgin wool along with lip glosses and dresses for my daughter…I love surprises!
Here is the yarn for my next project …Loving this color!

I’m happily knitting up this wool!!!!

Ms.Villa, if you’re reading this, know that you are appreciated & loved …
Thank you for those knitty nights and the Tacos and Salsa…

Non toxic nail polish makes me wanna bite my nails ...

Zoya seems to have a wide range of color. I read that these polishes are free of the bad stuff like toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP)  ...
That is great to know. Does any one know of the lasting power of this polish ? I'm loving that they are reasonably priced and there is a variety to choose from ...but do they last? This vegan nail polish sounds tasty and I want to invest in a few. However, my inquiring mind needs to know that after cooking, cleaning, knitting and general mama duties that the color will LAST more than a couple days!!!!...
Has any one had any good results with this brand? If so, tell me something...

Simple Sista Girl Swaggga ...

                                                             Ituen Basi

My creative juices are splishing and splashing.. My heart beats loudly...
                      My soul sings...

Not down with O.O.P

I'm ever inspired by a wide variety of "things" and persons.... It's pretty random and unexpected when I am tickled by inspiration...I've become used to this aspect of my personality...Tonight was no different. I was inspired by a piece I found by accident...but then there are no such things...right?
I was looking for a free knit snood pattern (scarf + hood) and was disappointed with what was available online. Either the pattern was not my type, way too complicated or just straight up ooogly! This is not unusual when I seek out that perfect knitting pattern...Is there such a thing any way ? a perfect pattern? ...I have a love hate relationship with knitting patterns. They often frustrate me. I'm bound to fudge up somewhere along the line leaving me quite PEEVED, ready to throw my yarn and needles in the driveway, jump in my jeep and run over my work several times until the anger, cursing and dramatic sobbing subsides. T'aint cute, my friend. Fellow yarn crafters know what I'm talking about. I take it personal when I put in time on my knitting and then the bells of doom sound and I realize I've made a mistake in the pattern and must UNDO what was done ... Ugh! It's like the knitting Gods are against me..LOL or they are trying to tell me something...
Soooo the Knitting Gods seem to be whispering to me to ditch the pattern and depend on my own knitting hands, sense and skills to create my next piece....I ain't down wit O.P.P ( other people patterns) and I must accept that fact....Hmmmm, quite interesting how my knitting always seems to relate to life in some way for me.
The release of another person's pattern enables you to see your self. Naked , naive and virginal. Who the heck are you with out that pattern your so used to?
You are forced to do something on your own. Device your own way/plan/purpose/pattern. It's never easy but always the most rewarding route.

Q.What protects you when you step out the comfort zone and rid your self of the "normal" ????????

A.Nothing, No one,  but you. You are confident, capable and strong. You can create your own path and begin the creation of your own, new and positive PATTERNS....Let go of O.P.P ..other people's patterns  ..and let your INspiration guide you .

On that note, Allow me to present to you my latest inspiration and challenge. I was taken by the possibility of remaking this lovely, woolly and warm snood...my way...The stitches within the knit are quite easy to emulate and the cable is not as hard at all. I adore it. This is my next piece for my personal collection.....There is no pattern so there will certainly be a variation and I welcome that. I will free hand this and write the pattern as I go. Bear with me, I'll show you my progress and pray you celebrate with me the FREEDOM that comes with letting go of O.P.P/ other peoples patterns and creating one's own. Even in the form of yarn...

I spotted the delish snood on accessoriestrends.com and was definitely attracted to the classic look. The generous amount of scarf ensures full coverage as I battle the Connecticut cold.  I love that it is long and flowy and full of versatile flyyness. I can already feel the wool warming my neck in the December nights as I drive to and from work. I definitely see no reason to pay the $150.00 that lynku.com was asking for it when I can knit this up my self. I can establish my own pattern based of the pics I see. So for so good .I'm looking forward to designing my pattern, my way...

Is there a stale pattern in your life worth letting go of?
Can you stand the challenge of creating your own pattern on your own terms?

I'm just saying ?
the knitting Gods made me do it ...

peace and love

Took the Pro out of Procrastinator...and moved on...

How I became productive:

I am brutally honest with my self regarding my time and how it’s being used.

I started writing a daily list the night before and setting a time frame to accomplish my goals for the next day.

I wake up earlier and get started on my morning exercise ASAP before I lose the will power to move from the bed. then I fake it till I make it. (I am honestly still working on this one, but practice makes perfect)

My FaceBook diet has helped …I will do this more often. Weaning my self from excessive social networking was a tough task but it freed up my online time. I still love FB, It's been a great way to connect with new people...And I will continue to use it..However, one must limit one self every now and then and practice moderation.

I stopped blog-hopping. I set a rule for my self ..I can not read any other blogs until my current post has been written, edited and blogged ! Only then I can take a mini tour of the blogsphere. I reward my self on Friday and Saturday nights with extensive blog surfing and e-socializing!

I do the stuff I hate RIGHT AWAY! I have to admit this works well at work too.

I let the voicemail do what I pay it to do.

I take notes of the important things that pop in my head…Ideas are not obligated to stay for long and I soon forget the good ones so I take notes.

I knit through all the waiting and PRODUCE a lot (doctor office, for children, store lines, red lights, meetings)

I break (dance) play and converse with my kids, call girlfriends, knit, indulge in some level of sexual activity and nap. Not everyday for everything, LOL and not in this order, but I get it in .....These refreshing activities keeps me balanced , sane and young at heart.
All work and No play is a sad equation !

I bribe my self. I love rewards and will work for them.

I nap. Everyday.

most importantly,

I take my self , my life and my passions SERIOUSLY and every one followed suite !

Changing habits, cultivating and carving a life of love and laughter is what my focus is right now !!!

Ooooooooh, I'm focused man !!!!

On that note,
I gotta run, hun ...

       :)

Peace and Love

Lusting after LUST

Okay so I had a Lucy moment again and learned a lesson in the end …

Wanna read it, here it go:

I walk into Walgreens and peeped some lovely WET and WILD palettes. Hmmm, one caught my eye …It turned out to be “Lust” the current must have from Wet&Wild. I hadn’t’ know about the current rage these colors were causing at the time. I hadn’t seen any reviews or vids on it. I just immediately liked the palette…
(Apparently EVERYBODY does)
I wondered how the color would look. So I was sneaky and opened the package right in the store …I know, tacky... hush!
It turns out I LOVED that sparkly wine color!!!! Uhm ma God!!! I was like okay, I’ll get this, but I want a “new” one… not this one I just opened…(bad girl…I know, I know). I decided that would be wrong and I kept the opened one…besides, I opened it! LOL…

In that same moment I remembered that I needed to pick up some thing for my son and made a quick turn into the next aisle…
Would you believe that the palette FELL out of my hand and dropped on the shiny linoleum…You know palettes don’t like to fall! You know they get all jacked up after that!!!! Ahhh, so I picked it up from the floor, and put it down next to the magazines rack as if I knew nothing. I walked back to the display to get another one.

I looked and looked but that seemed to have been the last one left ….(In the whole Connecticut!) LOL …
There was no more on the shelf! I was bummed and did not buy the cracked up one ….I could not stop thinking of it though…LOL ….LUSTING after the LUST palette ! smh!!!!
Naturally, over the course of the next days I went to all the local Walgreens in my area. And guess what was sold out in all the Walgreens I visited???? OMG, you guessed it. The Lust palette seems to be very popular around these parts. I looked online to possibly purchase through E-bay but had no luck…I figured I’d just forget it…

I ran into Walgreens yesterday for my son and what do you know??? The broken, beat up palette was put back on the shelf (YES THE ONE I DROPPED DAYS AGO!) and waiting to be bought. I thought to my self “Daaaaang Walgreens have you no shame?” …I quickly grabbed it, trying carefully to prevent cracked shadow from falling out even more…I walked to the register and spoke to the manager:

“Uhm, this is broken and there is no more. Can I get a discount on it?” I asked the manager, who gave me a puzzled look
“Yes, I can give it to you for a dollar, but you SURE you really want this thing?” he seemed to scorn me and my beat down  palette!
“Yup”

$1.06 later I became the newest owner of the Wet&Wild Lust palette.
I’m still shaking my head at all the drama…all the lusting….LOL…
I went home packed the broken powder down as well as I could and now it’s good to go!
SMH like a bobble doll !

Q: What would I have done differently?

A: I should have trusted my gut and bought the damn thing and not opened up the store’s goods in the first place.   :(  Next time, if I see a color that I like and it’s in my allotted budget I will not SLEEP it. I will get it and that should prevent another drugstore LUCY moment!

(Sigh)

But 1$? Broken or not, you can’t beat that! LOL…

What are you currently lusting?

I'm RICH !!!! I just struck oil !

My trip to New York was exactly as I expected. The streets gave me that “oomph” that I needed. Movement and people everywhere so full of life and energy.

I love that!

I never mind the hour drive to the city that never sleeps. My husband never lost his touch on the road. He is a human GPS and I’m always grateful when he mans the wheel freeing my hands to knit, my eyes to peak and my mind to wander. I love NY. We drove through Manhattan , Brooklyn and China Town with our son, enjoying the sights and sounds and munching on roasted peanuts as we headed to spots to get the our goodies…

I went to my tried and true oil spot Nicholas on 125th but because they mainly carry fragrance oils and not much medicinal oils I walked out with a bag of incense, and some black soap. Happy.
A few blocks from Nicholas I wondered into Walkers Natural Health store and found almond oil, grapeseed oil, aloe vera gel, brown sugar, honey... The basics … This was money well spent. It is also a great new beginning for my skin and I!

Of course I picked up tasty vegetarian foods and ate from my favorite vegan restaurant , The Uptown juice bar, before returning home.....

Sad to report I did not get any NYX eye shadows but I am most happy with the items I was able to buy.I will be returning to the city at the end of the month. I want grab a few things from Fordham Road and I'm pretty certain there is a cute shop there that sells NYX. No worries.

my natural face /hair care haul

Now in light of skin care~ I am on a mission to improve my skin and overall health of my skin over the next few weeks. I am seeking a glowing, blemish- free, buttery brown complexion. LOL …In order to become a expert at my own skin care I am studying the properties of oils and learning about the personality of my own skin....I think with a little T.L.C I will be the owner of that bronze glow I desire. Already it seems, my skin is showing signs of appreciation for the recent cleansing session I’ve indulged in using Castor oil. Yes, oil….Castor oil is essential to cleansing and it will quench the thirst of my skin and hair while not adding additional grime to my acne prone skin.

I am throwing away my facial cleanser and moisturizer now that I have unearthed and accepted this truth about the right way to cleanse my face.
If you are unfamiliar with oil cleansing a-k-a the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) please check out the brief and informative videos below:

video 1
video 2 ( nice before and after)

Kitchen Cupboard Beauty Queen ...

I have always had a love hate relationship with my skin. From about the age of 12 on I have had breakouts, blackheads and large, painful ( ZAP the fun out of a girl’s life) zits that made me want to skip school EVERYDAY!!!!!! This was a pain in my arse as well as my mother’s. Mom tried to encourage me, even paid for dermatologists and skin care. I remember one day missing my school bus, because she caught me crying about my acne and forced me to look in the mirror and say over and over to my self  “I am beautiful”
(Some things your mommy did, you just don’t forget !!!!)

As I grew up, I learned that my oily skin would probably always be oily and I taught my self different ways to maintain it. I was the girl who made “natural potions” and kept them in the fridge until my mom got annoyed. I read scores of articles in teen magazines and tried to create my own products in my mother’s kitchen. I can still remember the feel of my first oatmeal scrub and the smell of the egg yoke facial that I forgot to remove from the fridge after use. LOL

Getting older and getting busier, I gave up on creating beauty products in the kitchen when I hade to actually make food and feed a family in there. To save time and sanity I started seeking out the store bought stuff and some times even relied on basic soap and water and even rubbing alcohol to cleanse and soak up the oil from my skin!!!
Side note: THIS IS NOT GOOD.DON'T TRY IT AT HOME!

To this day, I admit, I have found nothing better to combat my stubborn skin than those ingredients hidden in mommy’s cupboard.
Wow … I am not surprised ….We know what is best for us , then some one , some thing , or maybe some advertising tell us differently and off we go taking another route than the one we should be on. This is what happened in regards to my skin care…It seems, even as a little girl I already knew how to love and pamper my skin …Then some how, through life and it’s demands, I lost touch with that self knowledge…

I’m still oily, still breaking out, and still having those painful flare up right before “Auntie Flow “arrives in her scarlet dress to hang out with me!

Ugh …I am fed up …I must take action ….and NOW!

I am reclaiming my natural beauty and re-entering the kitchen to make it happen!
This weekend I will stock up on oils and tools that I need to protect my skin and hair this winter. “NATURAL FACE/HAIR CARE HAUL”, you can call it that…

I am done with all these cleansers and moisturizers that don’t help me…Letting go won't be hard to do because I’m not a product junkie …Just a few staple products that get the job done is what my wallet and I like….
As I make these changes and create a new skin care regimen for myself I rest assured that the turn out will be awesome!!! I am armed with basic skin care know-how, a few good books and articles, the advice from beauty bloggers like you and some great YOUTUBE vids. LOL… I am committed to getting that great skin I always wanted ...

Action plan :
Tomorrow I’m heading to NYC for some shopping and a little lunch…
(And I hope to find a store that carries all the NYX eye shadow colors too!)

Here is a sample of my MUST HAVE list:

Honey
Brown Sugar
Castor Oil
Olive Oil
Almond Oil
Spray bottle
Small glass bowl
and a few more things ;)

I am a GOAL keeper with a tendency to dream BIG !

Lately there has been ALOT going on!

This is not a post about guilt however. I know I have been away more than I'd like to admit …Yet, I don’t feel bad and will not apologize because LIFE is happening! That's a good thing ....I won’t make it a habit of disappearing though because I love conversing with you all!

I have been knitting and homeschooling and staying focused on my kids…I am enjoying the process and learning my lessons. With every choice there is a reward or a consequence...
I'm choosing the route to REWARDS !
Every thing is NOT perfect, but I’d probably be bored if it was...
I have been trying to stay FOCUSED on my goals as well …. I get sidetracked easily!!! And everything is just not meshing the way I like.
so~
I have stepped back and am looking inside, pinpointing my issue….
Hmmmm…Being proactive is the best medicine….

*Remember on 10/10/10 when I said that it was a special day and I was personally challenging my self to 90 days of positive action to change my life?

I went back to reflect on the questions I asked my self that day. WTF do I want? It is important to do personal check in with your self to ensure you are living the life you want to be living and if not then you must make the necessary changes. This is easier said than done. But it CAN BE done. It may require you taking baby steps…but steps none the less…

So I’m reflecting … Re-analyzing and Refining my self …
So far here is what I have come up with:

I want to home school all my kids…They are doing better and we have all gotten closer since I started with the teens.

I have a love hate relationship with corporate America. After 11 years I want out! I feel trapped behind my desk…I'M LEAVING !

I want to create a successful makeup business and pursue yarn crafting full time…

Opening an Etsy shop, selling goods on EBay and writing/selling books on the side sounds like the good life.

I want to live a creative life and learn to live HAPPILY on less, until I can make more.

I want land. Green and fertile. My own back yard with a rose bush and an herb garden

Renting is not the bomb! Home ownership is where it’s at!

I need a room all of my own….for crafting, make-up, writing and anything else I choose!!! A room with a lock!!!

My kids need more space and Hubby needs a place to clank around his tools and keep messy “man stuffs”

I am ME! I am not so into heels ladies, wearing them everyday would kill me…It’s just not for me! I like flats and “man shoes”, like oxfords…idk...it’s just so...( random , i know)

I like make-up and dresses and (not sooo trendy) vintage fashions that express who I am.

I love my natural hair and will continue to honor and love the tresses on my head….I am learning to care for it and will GROW my poof like wild flowers!

I will become the hairdresser that I never had for my daughter and my sons and hubby too...

I will grow spiritually! Representing for the divine mothers and daughters who came before me and leave beauty and more divinity for those coming after.

I WILL JUMP HEAD FIRST INTO ‘LIVING’ THIS LIST AND CONTINUE TO REMIX , REFINE AND REMIND MY SELF OF MY GOALS ....

So in short I will focus my energy on:

Moving into a better home!!!!!!!!

Doing make-up artistry full time (in store or freelance)

Create my own line of knit accessories and T shirt apparel

Writing and Blogging

Spirituality and Honoring Self

As you can see I am gearing the mind, body and soul for 2011!!!

No time like the present to treat life like a PRESENT!

I AM!!!!!

Beauty is being the best of who you are!

Thank you for taking the time to see what I am working on!

Now tell me, what’s in the works for you?

2011 is knock, knock, knocking ….

Peace and love beautiful

Meet Martine....My M.U.A. of the moment !

The word “POP” never meant anything until I met Martine. This woman is an eyeshadow maven! Her hands are skilled in creating the most delicious looking eycandy and face art!

I was totally impressed when I saw a picture of her work floating around Face Book. I had to friend this artist…I learned that not only does she look fierce and has her make-up game on point but she is a sweet hearted and quite humble lady who just has happens to have a passion for flashing hot colors and vivid makeup looks. Her make –up color choices scream:
“ hey world , STOP, LOOK and LOVE ME!” I do LOVE how she works it !

Martine can cut a crease like a razor. She beats face like a boxer and express her creativity with colors like Queen of Crayola ! I can't get enough! How did you handle it?
Stayed home! LOL...No, but I have my days where the look did not come out the way I wanted it to but I still rock with it.

What is your favorite product right now?
Revlon Colorstay Foundation

What is your favorite brand and why?
There are too many to name. I don't really have a favorite brand...I feel that real makeup artist should be able to work with different mediums, brands, etc. Part of my top 10 is the 120 palette by BH cosmetics. It is a must have and NYX, MAC Glamour doll eyes .

What is your least favorite and why?
There are specific products that may not work well for me as well as others but as far a least favorite brand I don't really have one.

What product would you not be caught dead without?
Liner and lashes

Name three must haves for every girl’s make-up bag.

Virtual Voodoo....

I could watch YOUTUBE vids, shop EBAY, and BLOG-hop all day ….LOL....

I’m loving my virtual reality …

I remember when I had no friends. Now I have 3 very close women that I cherish to the max who help me in specific and varied ways to get through these days...
Thank you to my sista circle, you know who you are …We donned the name “NU JACKS”... ‘J.A.C.K.S’ representing our real names and NU because we are modern day NUBIAN queens to the fullest!!!! So those are my home girls. And though we are busy working mothers and hardly see one another, the love is always there ! Yah know the ones you call when he doesn’t, the ones who know your ugly side and still love you, the ones who you share a cup of juice with and sip after or you share your fork with them with no fears of contracting anything.... LOL yea, those chics. We all deserve at least one. Thank you GOD for mine.

I also have many internet acquaintances now. I have knitting/crafty friends, natural hair friends, face book friends, all sorts of blogger friends…It’s freaking terrific!
I can send a message, email, or comment to some one and get instant results or know that very soon I’ll have an answer or a new link…
I love that my virtual reality is by choice. I can turn it off and on with the push of a button and off/on goes the screen. Kinda like my phone…
LOL… (As a matter of fact I need to turn it on right now, in case my family is trying to reach me!)

It’s a new world from when I was a kid and shuffling through the card catalog to find information! Feel me!
I am writing this because it is true! Real Talk !!!

Also because of all the online inspiration out there in cyber space to share I have created a few writing series for this blog:

1st)  M.U.A of the moment -I will be showcasing a make-up artist every few weeks for you to meet, learn from and love

2nd) Video Vixen- I will be profiling a YouTuber that I think is fabulous

3rd) Designer Divine- I will review products, etc. from artisans and small business that I love and support

There is just too much inspiration out there that must be shared and rotated in order to reach the right hands! So here goes!!

I will put on my journalist cap (what I actually went to school for) and share!!!!

After all sharing is caring ….

So stay tuned there is more to come!!!!

peace and luv

The knitting M.U.A is a certified hooker…

I MUST knit!

I have been a crafty lady for most of my life. I love D.I.Y crafting and most things handmade.

I have had different blogs in the past chronicling my journey in yarn arts. Lately, I have been busy and I almost feel out of sync with my handiwork.

My hobby is, or at least it was knitting. I have not created anything in over 6 months. I do not feel guilty as I’d be feeling the pang of guilt had I been knitting and procrastinating on essential things that HAVE to be done. When I was an avid knitter that would happen from time to time…So the break was good to get my priorities in check. I would buy yarn , books and supplies all to have it pile up, lost and eventually donated…It was a mess. But fun nonetheless. I’ve matured a bit. And now I want to knit again. RIGHT NOW… Maybe even crochet. I love the possibilities of what my own hands can create and beautify...

That is why when my daughter refused to let go off a purple ball of cotton yarn I didn’t force her to put it down. Last week She had lost the wool hat I made her over a year ago so I figured this was her way of requesting a new one…I picked up 2 other complimenting colors and a couple of crochet hooks…

My aim is one project per month. Nothing more …nothing less…

Handcrafting is such a fabulous way to slow down this fast- paced crazy world, it enables you to express your self and revel in your creativity. Your God given talent and ability can be used to beautify your world…

Do you knit, crochet, or craft in anyway? I’d love to hear about it and the joy, release (or possible frustrations) it brings you…

If you’re not a crafter, you may want to grab a needle and a ball of yarn and head over to YOUTUBE for a quick knitting lesson video…

Now be fair warned that you may just get HOOKED!

Peace, Love and Yarny goodness to all….

Saturday....It's you again !

So it’s the week-end…

And my funds are low and the cold chill is high, I think I’ll keep it indoors for the most part when I am not in the office for the next few days.

My hair needs some attention. I’m thinking of washing, oiling and twisting until I have it flat twisted into a bun next weekend.…I also want to play with make-up and my sons need some mommy pampering……I will visit all the readers that comment on my posts …Yes, I’m stopping by your blog for a quick hello and to peep what ya been up to.

I had my first haul last week-end. And I was happy to get new brushes for my eyes only, my NYX jumbo pencil in milk, Maybelline’s Volume Express mascara and Maybelline’s Expert eye palate in Hushed Tints. I’m hoping that the milk primer helps these hushed hues to pop the way I’m expecting them too. I will share the results…

Hope you all have a nice week-end and please get some beauty rest!

Peace and love and don’t for get to moisturize!

Have you ever been in love?

I believe in love at first sight….
That is how I met my husband and how I met Lolita....
You see,
I was walking out of the fragrance store when my eyes caught hold of the Lolita Lempicka bottle…
The bottle is so attractive and enchanting that I walked back to the register to inquire. I was immediately mesmerized by the aroma. I spritz my wrist and threw the scented tester paper strip into my purse. The lovely scent caught me by surprise because I was not shopping for myself. I only went to buy my husband a new fragrance (what I thought would be a nice anniversary gift) and was lured to my new fragrance.
Well ladies the scent mixed well with my body chemistry and the sweet halo of fragrance danced about my head and flirted with me the entire evening. I could not stop thinking of it. I’m sold. Totally.
I’ll be getting this little love in the next two weeks… If you get the opportunity to try this sweet luxurious fragrance out, do so. It’s romance in a bottle …
Now in regards to hubby, He hated the cologne I chose. It was The One by Dolce & Gabbana. Fancy, huh? Well he didn’t even open the bottle to take a whiff, just smiled (because I’m so dang sweet) and asked that I return it saying he needed a filter for his car, if anything…He also confessed that he HATES fragrances. He stated that he has gotten sensitive to certain scents over the years and that he would only wear it because I wanted him to. He wears occasional oil, but is most happy with out any scents.
Can we all say: BUMMER!
However, I will certainly respect his wishes and will not FORCE him to wear what he does not wish too… I admit I get weak in the knees when I smell a well fragranced man. I love a sexy, masculine scent. But truth be told, I was thinking of my own carnal desires when I went fragrance hunting and not his REAL needs at all…It is the thought that counts and I guess I just didn’t think on it enough…lesson learned ….
whomp ,whomp, whomp….. I didn’t allow my disappointment to linger too long. I reminded my self of the old saying ‘if you can’t change some thing then change your attitude about it ….and I did…We ended up celebrating the day together, going to our old spot from our high school days, running errands, working out and swimming. We were kid free and grateful to spend time quality together….scent free and HAPPY!
So Whoop Dere it Iz. After 16 years I’m still learning about this man…Whoever said marriage is boring LIED or didn’t try hard enough!
At the end of it all, I’m pretty convinced that God set me up and wanted me to learn more about the man I LOVE and to finally find MY signature fragrance~ Lolita Lempicka….. I returned the rejected Dolce & Gabbana and spritz a little more Lempicka before I picked him up from work yesterday….To my surprise he open the car door and said “Hmmmm, that smells spiffy!”  I smiled, not quite sure what to make of his comment....at this point it doesn't matter...I know he will respect the fact that I like it even if he hates it and vice versa .It's smooth sailing so long as i dont wear a trace of it to bed. LOL. I can live with that request ...

Sesame Street knows that Black is beauty !!!!

I’m very excited that Sesame Street is repping for us curlie girlies! Check out this video and tell me what you think?

I’m totally feeling it and feel it will definitely be a  good distraction when I attempt my next hair combing session with my dawta!

My dawta has beautiful hair, the kind of hair I WISH I had when I was growing up. Well, she is too young to know what she has, but I know …

After 3 sons, I am excited to have a girl’s hair to do up in cute styles…But she FIGHTS it every time. She is only 22 months but still it is nerve wrecking and it always ends in my bribing her , forcing her, or just leaving her alone (wild and free and knotty)….I hope this is temporary though and she can be trained into liking to do her hair. I have always had hair issues…Coming from a family that REALLY HAD INDIAN in it, I had cousins, aunts and even my mom with long flowing hair…At one point my mom could sit on her hair and wrap her long braid several times around her head…I was not that fortunate … Yea, funny at the time I thought long straight hair was a FORTUNE compared to the macka bush on my head..
I have great hair texture, I now know that. Thick, strong and wavy with hints of my Indian ancestry…but only hints…I struggled through countless perms, (I’ll never forget the burns) then braids and they even once my mom and aunts threatened the Jerri Curl to “ tame” my hair …I felt like an outcast in my family when it came to hair…I’d pray for long , flowing hair like my mom and other family members..…Man that good hair thing is no joke in our community , huh….I finally learned that GOOD hair is CLEAN hair !!! I started to change my attitude about my hair  when I was about 15 and one day I said “to hell with this” and I chopped it all off and within a year I had locks and loved it …This is when Lauren hit the scene and lots of brown sistas walked a little taller and wore their hair just a little nappier…and loved it ..It was like dark skinned was the new light skinned !!!!cocoa sistas reigned supreme !!!!! I was proud and as my locks grew so did my mind…my attitude…and before long I had locks that raced to my waist…and just like that one night, after much contemplation I sat at in front of my mirror while the house was empty and I clipped away each one of my long, regal antennas and stared at my strange new self in the mirror….WOW….…I tearfully thanked God that he answered my prayers. He gave a nappy headed little girl like moi the chance to feel my hair blow in the wind, and fall about my shoulders and my back with out any extension!!!
After they recovered from shock, my sons warmed back up to me and hubby forgave me. I would catch them staring at me from time to time !!!LOL... I promised my kids and hubby I’d one day grow it back, but that I felt that God and I accomplished our mission.…and it was time to rest...

Then I took time and got to know the stranger in the mirror….that was over 5 years ago and today, several hair cuts and styles later I still like that strange chic that peers at me from my mirror…

Shout outs and Big Thank you to Sesame Street!!! Sure wish I had this video when I was a little girl, who had Indian in my blood, but not enough in my hair!!!

Today I know I am enough!!!

Peace and Kinky love

Back Stage Pass !!!!

I have had the opportunity to work back stage for a few local shows and I will just say , it’s a wonderful way to build skills, network and confirm that you are an artist…You meet some interesting and very talented people and can build new relationships too ! It's great to see the work you did walking down the catwalk, though you are usually backstage ,it's still great to know you helped the show to come alive ....It's a great feeling !!!!

There are a few cons too though ….Like standing for hours, the need for speedy hands, the Diva model who is critical of your work and knows it all ,the occasional self doubt that emerges and perhaps the possibility of standing in the midst of bad breath. (this has been rare, no offense)
But if you can get past that then it’s all good from there …And so far it’s been all good !

However, although I like fashion shows I will not limit my self and I don’t like doing speedy make-up !
So for me, my ideal gigs so far are photo shoots where I can focus on details and have more time to work on my model.
Still, the world of fashion shows has a lot to offer , if that is the route your wanting to travel …But although I love it and would do it again, I WANT MORE....
Here is a few pics of "my models" and my work that i have promised to show…

I’m not ashamed to PAYLESS!

Listen ,

Every one knows I try to be as frugal as possible. To the point where I have been guilty of being just plain old cheap and miserly.
That has changed thankfully, but I will still refuse to spend a whole heap of money on trends. I will not spend 100$ for something I can spend $40 on or can find in great condition at a thrift store for even less and get the same effect and feel …Roger dat ? So when I decided to check out my local PAYLESS I was pleased with their line up and the whole BONGO sale (buy one get one ½) wasn’t bad either. I bought a shoe, wore it and returned because it was too painful on my toes and my foot arch….Upon my return I got store credit and replaced them with a cute pair of booties. I also walked away with a sexy hand bag (it was already marked down, then topped with the BONGO discount) for little under $3.50.

Here is some purse porn for my Bag Ladies !

goes great with my jacket !

loving the print , I am going to do an eye look just like this !

It is spacious enough for my things ....No Essentials left behind !

Loving the depth of the this bag ...very roomy

Oh there goes the earrings and the lip gloss i was looking for !

Metallic Shimmer, I'm a rock starr !

I was happy to find a comfy fitting yet sexy, work- ready bootie.

                                                                  take a peek :

I am not going to hurt my feet now and later on in life be stuck with bad feet and a sore back and then have to wear these :
LOL ....riiiight ? NOT riiiight !

So there is a limit to my heel height and I am careful to make sure I am comfortable ... uncomfortable is unsexy and those 5" stiletto wearing Barbies out there will pay big in the end...I don't really believe the hype that beauty requires pain ! So girls, if you have a pair of shoes that makes you lose circulation in your big toe or have your bunion throbbing, it's time to toss 'em ...Don't even donate them to the Goodwill , cause you'll be giving another chic the same issues...Each one teach one ...

Trust me, I tried shoes on and walked up and down the aisle to make sure I found something my feet could withstand. I’m sure I pissed off the sales girl with my antics. The bag was impulse buy yes, but hey, it’s a nice sized bag for the price of a large cup of coffee so I’m not mad about it! Go me !!!!(happy dancing)

Have you found any great finds lately that make you do the happy dance? Do tell.

With the fall here and in full effect we are all changing up our wardrobes a bit and transitioning for the colder weather. I hate the cold , but love chunky knits and scarves and I'm a sucker for fleece! I even thinking about getting a Snuggie...LOL...

I found a great vid that was a powerful reminder as to just what my fall wardrobe was lacking …
take a peak .....

Hope this helps you too …
Peace and Love!

soul searching is beautiful and you can not buy it...just try it...

To my new followers, I send you Warm Welcomes and many thanks!
It is a pleasure to have you and I look forward to communicating with you all!

Today is 10/10/2010. Although I am not a math person I like numbers and this seems significant. Google the date and see what you get …

My cousin says that if life has thrown lemons at you, this is the perfect day to gon’ and make that lemonade…feel me?
So What Can I do, on this supposed supernatural day? PLAN! That’s what!

I’m conducting an innerview with self. Asking some tuff questions and refusing wimpy answers… Holding self accountable…

What do I really want?

And how am I going to get it?

Where do I see my self in 5 years?

How will I achieve that?

What do I want for my family?

When am I really going to move to another state?

What about the JOB that I hate?

Ever just sat with your self and had a good talk?
or wrote out your feelings until your hands hurt?
Some times the mysteries of life can be revealed with a little SILENCE and a lot of SELF searching….
That is what 10/10/2010 means for me ….A day of personal reflection and inner searching…

Now is today just another day? You be the judge …I have already decided it is not. No day is just any other day in my book. It’s all about what we do with those 24 hours …It’s up to us….

I remember a wise saying I learned a while back ….take this and run ….
“IF IT’S GOING TO BE …THEN IT’S UP TO ME!”

                                    so....

Let’s see what we can change in our lives in the next 90 days …..
You can change NOTHING INTO SUMTHANG!!!!

Here is an excerpt that got me thinking …..
“The vibrations of 10-10-2010 are all about conversion, changing from one form into another. A time where miracles come to life and breathe deeply of the broken dreams and lost hopes of so many with golden hearts. Conversion is defined as an event that results in a transformation, a change in the units or form of an expression: (like conversion from Fahrenheit to Centigrade) the act of changing from one use or purpose to another. A change in which one adopts a new faith, or belief. As a total unit numerical #10 has the same vibrational word energy as the words; crown, man, arise, shine vitality, and conversion point"
The vibration of this paramount day and year of 10-10-2010conversion asks you how do you spend your time energy, money, and light. Do you spend too much time and energy in worrying or waiting for a sign from the universe?” read more

Peace and love....Monday is on her way ...rest up and get ready for the week ahead!
Look in da mirror and make dat change !

Green Tea is a natural beauty aide...Sip on !

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one" ~ ancient chines proverb

Tea, especially green tea is coffee's healthy, sweet and younger sister and I'm rolling with her these days!
ya hurd me ? LOL...I made a switch from coffee and cola to tea and water...and after the first few days of wanting to guzzle down 2 Liters of PEPSI,  can say I feel better and glad i made the healthier choice..It is not easy though , I have been trying to leave PEPSI alone for years, even while pregnant it was hard not to sip on that bubbly pop....
Any how , you are what you eat and I am not going to keep blaming all my breakouts on my menstrual cycle...Let's leave "Aunt Flow" out of this one...for now.
I know I am what i eat ...and drink ....and apply on my body ....and so I decided to take my tea to the next level of self care...yea.

I have heard so many things about green tea that I have started my own little experiment by drinking it daily and incorporating it into my daily face cleansing ritual. I love the fact that it boast of antiseptic and astringent qualities. It is claimed to tighten your pores and is gentle on your skin.
I first heard of the homemade toner on Divas Can Cook blog and tried it once and forgot about it ....
But I have been wearing more make-up lately and am balancing this with natural and affordable skin cleansing methods....FREE is affordable to me ! and Natural is LOVELY to me !!! so Green tea toner it is !

I basically made a cup of tea and left it unsweetened of course. Once cooled i filled a cotton ball with the warm liquid ( best used cold ) and rubbed on my clean face...I make sure all make-up traces are gone and I let this air dry...

So far I like this and while Witch Hazel is another great product on the market , this home made toner is tastier, cheaper and ALL NATURAL .... oh and it will last in your refrigerator for about a week...
Try it and tell me your tasty results....

Peace, LOVE and GREEN TEA !
